ECOBANK
FHI 360 and Ecobank Ghana partnered with PAYDP on a pilot digital financial inclusion project targeted at the youth between the ages of 18 to 25 years in Ghana.
PAYDP Ghana introduced a development training module which started in 2009 with the Manya Krobo (dipo) girls who were trained in tie and dye and bead making.
Manuals were developed as handbook for the project. Various skills were introduced, beads making, bread baking, pastries and soap making. These products were branded and sold in the various communities.
HFC BANK
As part of empowerment programmes with women and girls, a one-year project was implemented with Save the Children USA’s and the HFC bank on the Youth Save project. This created an avenue for women and girls to learn about savings and also save for future occurrences.
ACCESS BANK GHANA “LIVE B3TA”.
The “LIVE B3TA” savings account forms part of the unique solutions offered by Access Bank’s flagship women empowerment programme, “W” Initiative which is aimed at improving the financial inclusion of low-income individuals and communities. Access Bank Ghana partnered with PAYDP to reach out to the Kayayei and their male counterparts. Some of the Kayayei were trained as field staff, and others were supervisors who registered their colleagues. In this initiative, higher interest rates than the regular savings account is given and has other insurance benefits one can enjoy. The account is designed to drive behavioral change towards savings, micro-insurance and credit. It is an insurance-embedded group savings account integrated with mobile money, and makes it easier for customers to do their banking anywhere and at any time. For ease of reference, customers can also use their phone numbers as account numbers.
Access bank has also been facilitators of financial literacy programmes organized by PAYDP for Kayayei and other marginalized girls. This is to enable the vulnerable girls who have been given livelihood skills development to make informed financial choices.
